That day, Shota was late for their rehearsal so Subaru went to look for him in his classroom. There was a boy with him. Subaru peeked at them from the doorframe.

“Yasuda-kun, I’m sorry, I…,” the boy sobbed.

Shota hugged him, and the boy’s voice was muffled against his chest. There was also pain in his expression, tears about to fall from the corner of his eyes. They stayed like that for a while; pieces of paper were spread all over the floor, around the table, and around the chair the boy was sitting on. Some of them were ripped up. Subaru could then imagine what had happened when he saw an opened satchel thrown next to the door, inside a bin. “We hate you, fucking nerd. Die,” he could read on it, written in red pen.

“Don’t cry anymore, Machida,” Shota whispered. “That won’t solve anything.”

Machida rubbed his eyes as he moved away from him. Shota helped him pick up his things, and, just before he left, he patted him on the shoulder.

“I’ll be right here, whenever you want to talk.”

When he heard Shota’s sentence, Subaru felt like he had experienced that before. Some confusing images came to his mind. He suddenly felt dizzy, as if everything was a dream, and he couldn’t move. It was really like he had been in that situation sometime during his life – the same feeling, the tears, and the silence. His knees bent, and he slowly slid down, his hand clenched to the doorframe. It felt like somebody had punched his stomach. Everything went dark.

Dumbass! You stink. You’re a faggot.

Who the hell are you? Are you a friend of this shit? You two assholes, get out of here!

…Shibuyan, please. Please help me. I can’t stand it.

It hurt inside. That place with the stitch. So much so that he thought that his soul had been ripped out and exposed to the air and that his whole body would explode. He gasped for breath. Someone held him when he was about to fall forward.

“Subaru! Hey! Are you okay? Please, say something!” some loud, choked screams reached his ears.

Shota’s face was right in front of his. Subaru raised his hand and placed it on Shota’s cheek, wiping away the tears that now were coming out of his eyes. There was something strange about him, something new, something Subaru couldn’t remember before. Shota put his hand over his; his palm was all sweaty and cold.

“It’s you,” Subaru said, “your voice.” Shota frowned. “It was here, in my head, just for a moment.” Subaru’s lips quivered. His eyes wandered around the place, then came back to look at Shota. “Don’t worry. I’ll help you.”

Shota shook his head and put his arm around his waist to help him stand up. They went into the classroom. Subaru’s feet tripped over a chair leg, and he fell to the ground on top of Shota. He smiled.

“No,” Shota whispered. His eyes were full of tears again. His voice trembled. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, and I haven’t asked you for help.”

“You don’t have to.” Subaru lifted Shota’s head and flicked a lock of hair off his face. Shota began crying again. He tried to stop Subaru from getting closer by pushing lightly with his hands against his chest. Subaru was still smiling. “I already know.”

Shota’s word disappeared into the kiss. Subaru is Subaru again, oh God, he thought. His head started spinning. Subaru’s heart ached against his. It was beating fast – so full of life, of will, of desire. His body was warm. His lips were too hot, wet, and demanding. Shota wanted to stop there, but he wasn’t able to. Once Subaru’s hand started sliding over his skin, he couldn’t refuse. He could only cry and return his movements in silence, blaming his own weakness, cursing how he would never refuse Subaru’s wishes, even if it meant causing him trouble again.

It was late. Very late. The streetlights were on.

Shota was worried.

Thanks for reading~
