0.1 – Home
The windows were wide open and the light filled the room with a golden aura. Ueda silently listened to Junno’s breath rhythm. He was like an angel. Both were lying face to face on his bed, bare chest, though their pants and trousers were still on –and yet they felt each other’s warmth.
If it was Ryo, he thought, his awakening would be different. The sheets would have been messed up, his body all naked and cold, his skin and heart full of new bruises. Instead, Junno had listened to his complaint all night, drinking all the coffee he could to avoid sleeping, resting his hand on Ueda’s shoulder and nodding without saying a word. He could have kissed him and they could have lain together – but Junno wasn’t one of those who got advantage of heartbreaks. He’d always be sympathetic towards Ueda. His being this nice made it harder for Ueda to make that the last time.
Ueda sat up, slowly turned to the side and placed his lips on Junno’s cheek, then on his shoulder. The younger purred, his lips curving into a bright smile. Ueda got up of the bed and put his T-shirt on. Before leaving, he cleaned up the room and washed the coffee cups. He left a note on the bedside table: “Thanks for everything, Taguchi-kun”.
Ryo had sure been looking for him. Ueda knew he’d be terribly mad. He was that jealous.
Because of him, even knowing the truth, he still couldn’t love Junno.
0.2 – Closed sky
There was a new moon. The cold hit Ueda soon after he left the club. He needed to think through everything again. Ryo was running out of patience, he already knew. Nothing special had happened that night – he just felt like dropping out to somewhere else.
Their relationship had gone through many bad times. He still sometimes couldn’t tell Ryo’s jokes from the things he said to annoy him. He’d figured he’d get used to it, but indeed it began to feel painful. It was painful because he knew he couldn’t either be apart from his boyfriend. He couldn’t help it – he loved him recklessly.
He remembered then what Junno said the last time they meet each other at the jimusho, that very afternoon. He said it frankly, without trying to disguise his feelings. Ueda wondered if he was really conscious that he couldn’t requite it, and yet he hadn’t given an answer to his mate.
However, he had already decided it was impossible.
The lights were still on in his apartment. Knowing him he’d be playing games or watching TV, even though he had been working all day. Ueda climbed the stairs and walked towards his door, first pressing his ear against it to check if any noise was going on inside before knocking.
Junno jumped from his seat and opened it immediately to welcome him with a warm embrace.
0.3 – Appreciate me
“What did that guy tell you? You look different” Ryo hissed, drink in hand.
“It’s not ‘that guy’” Ueda replied, taking off his coat. “His name is Taguchi, and you know that”.
“Of course” Ryo nodded. “How would I not know when he spends with you double the time we’re together?”
There was that suspicion grin.
“We’ve already talked through this” Ueda sighed.
“Yeah, and we agreed that I’m not convincing Johnny to let us be just for the sake of nothing” Ryo whispered, taking his hand.
He leaned forward to kiss Ueda’s lips. He looked then into his eyes and stood up as the music began to play.
“C’mon” he told his boyfriend. “Dance with me”.
Ueda finished off his drink and headed towards the dance floor. Ryo smiled at him and put his arms on his shoulders, swinging his hips and kissing him again.
“We’re okay, aren’t we?” he said on his ear.
“Yes, we are” Ueda answered. “He has only a crush on me”.
